The Angel Wine List

"Work is the curse of the drinking class" Oscar Wilde 1854-1900

The wines at The Angel are stocked to allow the guest to go on a journey of discovery. The Angel offers, alongside some really great classic grape varietal wines, the majority of the output of one world class, prizewinning Australian wine maker from the McLaren Vale.

Joseph Rowe Osborn, founder of d’Arenberg and patron of the turf, bought his first McLaren Vale vineyards with the winnings of his racehorse, Footbolt, whose name lives on in Shiraz form. His grandson d’Arry and great-grandson Chester inherited the business and have built it into one of Australia’s best loved wineries.

"Chester Osborn, the remarkable person behind this enormous array of both impeccably high quality and value-priced wines, deserves considerable accolades for what he is able to achieve at all price ranges. If you love Australian wines, d’Arenberg is a winery to seek out as these offerings all possess abundant soul as well as character. In short, the accolades that proprietor/winemaker Chester Osborn receives not only from The Wine Advocate, but virtually everybody in the wine world, are all well deserved." Robert M Parker Jr,The Wine Advocate
